Soil samples

Precise planning, efficient execution
Testing your soil for key nutrients forms an essential foundation for farm-specific, economical fertilisation. Sampling that is well-planned, reliably performed and DGPS-supported ensures you obtain representative soil samples. Subsequent laboratory analyses reliably demonstrate whether your plants’ nutrient provision is at risk, and if so, whereabouts on your land.
The ideal sampling pattern for your fields depends on the heterogeneity of the fields you want to investigate. The more the soil conditions fluctuate, the closer the pattern should be. Sampling based on TalkingFields (TF) Zone Maps ensures the best quality results. TF zone maps are an extension of TF basic maps and consolidate areas with similar growth into digital zones. The zones are then used as guidelines for field tracks and for efficient, targeted sampling. This saves time and increases precision.

NEXT basic nutrient soil sampling

Service scope:
- Driver’s travel and work time
- DGPS-supported sampling in accordance with state-specific regulations
- Arable land: 0–20 cm or, depending on the federal state, up to 30 cm, 15–20 cores/sample
- Grassland: 0–10 cm, 30–40 cores per sample
- Determination of pH value, phosphorus (P), potassium (K), magnesium (Mg)
- Data prepared for NEXT Farming or output as a shapefile.
- Results folder including nutrient maps, field assessments and fertilisation plans
- Note on Bavaria: Under certain circumstances, for fields with a specific soil type and/or pH level, a mandatory test for free lime is initiated in addition (for EUR 1.90 extra).
The analyses are performed using the prescribed VDLUFA methods. pH level: Extraction with 0.01 m CalcCl2, P, K: CAL method; Mg: Extraction with 0.125 M CaCl2

Service scope:
- see service scope for basic nutrients
- Determination of copper (Cu), zinc (Zn), manganese (Mn), boron (B) and sodium (Na) trace elements

Additional analyses available for:
- Calcium content (Ca)
- C/N ratio – the ratio of Corg (humus as a %) to Ntotal (total nitrogen) is an indicator of the degree of humification and of the nitrogen availability
- Free lime
- Iron (Fe)
- Sulphur (S)
- Potash sequestration
- Soil type – grain size determination (hydrometer analysis)
